First National Athletics League Meeting

What an amazing day at Grangemouth in the first ever Scottish National Athletics League for u17/20/Seniors, as the sun shone and so did the Harmeny athletes from early morning until the last races. We've had Superteams and Super Saturday, but it was Super U17 Girls with a total of 7 club records: Ella Jones with an amazing time in the 80m hurdles, then again in the 100m, followed by Lara Brechin in the 800m and 300m, Evana Chan in the Long Jump, Natsai Nyabadza in the 3,000m and then the 4x100m record for Evana, Esther Taylor, Eilidh Scobbie and Ella again. Not to be outdone, Finlay Ross provided an u20 boys record in an exciting 800m race. The final race of the day also happened to be the most exciting as Fraser Holman won a sprint finish in the 5,000m, only just outside the senior

Regional Superteams at Saughton

The scottishathletics outdoor U12 SUPERteams event is an extremely popular fixture in the annual athletics calendar and we're delighted that Harmeny AC, along with our friends at Corstorphine AAC, will be hosting a new, regional event which we hope will increase the number of athletes able to take part in SUPERteams, and also reduce the travel requirement faced by clubs.  The regional SUPERteams format will be a low-key, club-organised, scottishathletics-supported event, with the opportunity to qualify for the National Final a few weeks later. The event will take place between 10am and 4pm on Sunday May 28th at Saughton Track. Clubs can be represented by any number of athletes in each heat and can choose any of the five heats to attend. However, a single cub can only be represented in ONE heat (i.e. clubs cannot send some members to one heat and others to another).  Harmeny

Tendai brings home Euro bronze for GB & NI

After a superb first round win in his heat on Monday evening Tendai followed up with another amazing performance to take the bronze medal in the 1500m final at the European U18 championships in Jerusalem.  After a brisk early pace 3 athletes made a break on the last lap with Niels Laros (Netherlands) eventually taking the win and Tendai and Andreas Fjeld Halvesson (Norway) in a close battle down the home straight for 2nd and 3rd.  Tendai’s GB team mate Corey Campbell, Team East Lothian, also made the final finishing in a fine 6th position. This was a very high quality field with the championship record broken twice during the championships and the  top 6 finishers coming in below the previous championship best set in Gyor by fellow Scot Kane Elliot. It underlines what a great achievement this is as well as invaluable experience competing at this level.

European U18 Championships

Well done to our very own Tendai who makes selection for Jerusalem. Congratulations and good luck from us all at Harmeny!   Seven Scots have been picked to represent GB and NI at the European U18 Championships next month. The event is taking place on July 4-7 in Jerusalem and British Athletics have selected a team of 40 athletes to travel to Israel. With seven of those Scots, it means our representation is 17.5 percent, approximately double the population ratio average we would expect when GB and Ni teams are announced. That reflects on hard work by these young athletes – particularly coming through the pandemic period – and their coaches and the clubs who helped develop them. It is also pleased to note that five of the seven are currently with the 4J National Athletics Academy which has a clear goal to try and guide young athletes towards representative selections with

Rigg Race 2022 Report

It was a lovely spring evening for the return of an in-person Balerno Rigg Race - the first since 2019, after the cancellation of 2020's race, and the virtual race of 2021. A total of 155 runners took to the field, including the usual excellent array of fancy dress entrants. An incredible performance by Iain Hutchinson saw him take 1st place in a superb time of 33m 33s, with Alex Luetchford and Euan Crawford pushing him all the way. For the ladies, Hazel MacCormick followed up her 2019 win with a 37m 56s finish, followed by Chiara Franzosi and Kerry Costello. For the Club section, a huge Hunters Bog Trotters contingent delivered a number of impressive performances, finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the men's race, ensuring a fine win of the club trophy for HBT. Harmeny v CAAC (and EAC!)

Last Sunday saw our annual Harmeny v CAAC xc race take place much later in the season than usual and in torrential rain. We had invited Edinburgh AC to join us and had 66 kids in total turn out. The results can be found here: Results Lothian xc

Angus Kay – Top Dog!

Harmeny AC would like to thank Angus Kay for his service to the club, previously as a brilliant Club Secretary and more recently keeping the club best performances spreadsheet bang up to date, despite now living 'up North'. A 'Harmeny Top Dog' mug has arrived in Killin as a small token of our appreciation for many years of service. Thanks Angus!!!

Cross Country 13th Feb

We are holding our annual Cross Country friendly with Corstorphine this Sunday (13th Feb) in Juniper Green. Edinburgh AC are also invited this year. This is a great opportunity to try out cross country if you haven't before; it's very friendly and is a shorter distance than our league matches. It is open to ALL age groups and you're welcome to bring along a friend/sibling to take part too - there is no need to register, just turn up on the day and provide contact details at registration. Shoes with good grips are recommended and you should wear a Harmeny vest if you have one. Plus warm clothes for before/after the race. The venue is Curriemuirend park, which is just to the left of Wester Hailes Road as you come down the hill from Gillespie Crossroads. We will also need plenty of helpers - start/finish

Cross Country Haul

While the cross country season still has a few weeks to run, the achievements of Harmeny AC’s junior athletes in the East District League deserve to be highlighted with the club winning the league titles in 5 of the 7 junior categories. Following their National Short Course title in November, the U17 boys once again led the way, this particular squad winning their 5th consecutive league title, stretching back to 2017 (Harmeny’s first ever league title at that time). This year, their achievements were mirrored by a talented group of younger athletes who followed in their spiked-footsteps. Pride of place went to the Under 11 boys, winning their league at a canter with 32 points, 208 ahead of the 2nd place club. The U13 boys took a share of their league, finishing on equal points with Edinburgh AC, while a clean-sweep of boys titles was
