Best Female Athlete Overall : winner Nancy Corrie

  • Nancy Corrie – having had a terrific 2021, everyone thought 2022 would be a little tougher for Nancy, however she has almost a complete set of medals: national XC team silver, national relay silver, Scottish trail champs individual gold, individual silver in Scottish schools road champs and team gold, team gold at Scottish Schools XC as well as 5th at National Road races AND National XC at Falkirk plus East District XC selection.
  • Esther Taylor – U17 CE takes a lot of determination and just getting to the start line is a major achievement.  She is the first U17 Harmeny athlete to compete in pentathlons and the 2 day Heptathlon in recent memory and also re-writing all the club CE records (and some field records) in the process.  Lots of potential to keep improving but also realising the hard work that goes into that and Esther is always keen to take on as much as we can plan for her.  She is a pleasure to work with.

Best Male Athlete Overall : winner Ethan Lorimer

  • Ethan Lorimer – Ethan has been an established member of the squad for several years and has contributed to team successes at XC and relays. This year however has seen him excel individually in the steeple chase. 2nd at Scottish schools U17, 2nd at School Games u17 and current u17 Scottish Champion at 1500m steeplechase. Ranked 4th overall in the UK  these performances saw him achieve SIAB T&F selection and entry into the Scottish Athletics National Academy.
  • Blake Burchill has been outstanding since joining the club in the middle of the year , as an u11 he has represented the club at many events across outdoor track, indoor and XC – breaking countless club records including outdoor 600m and long jump plus long jump, shot put, 60m, 200m and 600m indoors
  • James Wotherspoon U15/U17 – James joined the endurance squad in late 2021 and immediately made an impact making interdistrict selection and finishing 6th at National XC. He quickly followed this up by winning the U15 Scottish schools XC. He was rewarded with SIAB XC selection and later in the summer a Scotland selection for London Mini marathon. Alongside this he competed in the Scottish Hill running league where he finished top u15 overall.

Best Endurance Performance : winner Finlay Ross

  • Finlay Ross U17 800m English Championship Gold, Bedford. A standout performance within the squad in a highly competitive field and coming back from a disappointing race 2 weeks earlier in Aberdeen where he took silver in the Scottish Championships. Add that to Scottish Schools Indoor U20 800m Bronze, Outdoor u17 Gold, Scottish selections for SIAB track and field and school games and it’s been a great year for Finlay. Ranked 4th overall in the uk it was great to see him back performing at this level after a quiet year in 2021 and achieving the standard for Scottish Athletics National academy entry.
  • Georgia Bruce – despite never having competed in league, district or national track competition, Georgie turned up as a first year U15 to the East District championships and took the silver medal in the 800m. Her time of 2.20 was, for a long time, the number 1 ranking time in Scotland for her year group.

Best Sprint Performance : winner Euan Laird

  • Euan Laird – has had a strong season competing over many distances including the 800m. He has taken chunks of time off all his events as well as Finishing 5th in the 400m at u17 champs in his first year.
  • Cameron Weir – Finished 1st in the 100m at the East district Champs
  • Evan – made the final of the 100m at the u13 age group champs but had to pull out due to an injury.

 

Best Field/Combined Event performance : winner Esther Taylor

  • Evana Chan – Club records in the LJ and TJ after not long starting at the club and never doing LJ. Finishing 4th in the long Jump East districts and 7th in TJ at national age groups in her first year.

  • Olivia Muir – Competed at the Scottish schools Pentathlon, first time multi eventing and managed to 5th overall in her category.
  • Josh Lee – as well as being a very able endurance and sprint athlete, Josh was certainly the surprise of the year when he picked up the bronze medal in the national champs for javelin, having helped the U12 boys to Superteams triumph earlier.

 

Best Endeavour: winner Kieran Hardie

  • Aria McFarlane gives it her all in every race and brings a really good attitude to training and will try to tackle whatever you throw at her. We can also count on her to make any newcomers feel welcome which really helps with team spirit. She’s had an amazing year in cross country, with top 10 finishes in EDL, and on the track and its been great watching her improve!
  • Callum Gladwin – Despite being injured and ill almost all year which is extremely unlucky he continually turned up to training when he could. He works hard no matter the difficulties he faced to get back into fitness. Along with this he helps coach the RJT athletes, he encourages athletes to try different activities and comes with enthusiasm to help those athletes be ready to compete.
  • Kieran HardieU15/U17 has shown steady improvement this year in all events and distances. He overcome his disappointment not making last years Interdistrict team with commitment to training and sensible goal setting. SIAB XC  selection followed and more recently he was selected for the Scottish team at the London Mini Marathon. He’s been one of our most consistent performers this year on track and cross country and recently led the u15’s to East district league victory with 2 individual race wins. Needless to say he made the Scotland East Interdistrict team comfortably this year.
  • Emilie Paul – turned out for the girls relay team despite, as it turns out, being in quite some pain, carrying quite a serious injury, helping them to the National silver medal. Since being injured, has continued to turn up to help at training and shows an incredibly positive attitude which rubs off on others.
