While the cross country season still has a few weeks to run, the achievements of Harmeny AC’s junior athletes in the East District League deserve to be highlighted with the club winning the league titles in 5 of the 7 junior categories. Following their National Short Course title in November, the U17 boys once again led the way, this particular squad winning their 5th consecutive league title, stretching back to 2017 (Harmeny’s first ever league title at that time).

This year, their achievements were mirrored by a talented group of younger athletes who followed in their spiked-footsteps. Pride of place went to the Under 11 boys, winning their league at a canter with 32 points, 208 ahead of the 2nd place club. The U13 boys took a share of their league, finishing on equal points with Edinburgh AC, while a clean-sweep of boys titles was narrowly missed as the U15s finished a close 2nd to Aberdeen AAC. And to top it all off, Harmeny won not just their first ever girls league title, but their 2nd too, with wins in both the U11s and U13s, the latter age group having already been crowned East District Champions in December at Stirling.

A total of 57 different junior athletes helped win these titles, 25 of who achieved top 10 finishes over the course of the 3-match season at Hawick, Dundee and Livingston.

In the adult section, there were strong finishes from the women (7th) and men (11th) and the masters (5th and 7th respectively). With club record attendances achieved, and 2nd places in the overall standings for both males and females, the club has a lot to look forward to at the National Championships in Falkirk in late February.
