Keep on Running…and running…and running
It was lovely to have 4 different groups out on the covid-compliant Sunday runs yesterday. We had groups which ran the Pentland Skyline (20 miles, 6000 feet of climbing), a group which took on the 7r's race route (13 miles), a group running at a very socially paced flat 4.5 miles and a fourth group running 7 miles showing that there's something for everyone at Harmeny. If you are missing running with other people why not become a member so that you too can benefit from our club runs? For the small cost of £25 annual membership you can join our covid-compliant club runs as well as additional training sessions & activities.
#KeeponRunnning
KEEP ON RUNNING is a new campaign launched by Scottish Athletics to keep people who may have started running in 2020 to stay active. After the success of our jogscotland beginner's group in January, this Sunday (18th October) Harmeny AC will be starting an organised group run for people who want to keep active, meet others and take their running to the next level. We are currently allowed by the Scottish Government to run in groups of up to 15 adults. Strict precautions are taken to make sure each session is safe, including risk assessments, collecting contact details for track and trace, no physical contact, and the appointment of a covid coordinator for each group. If you would like to get involved please sign up by registering to join Harmeny AC, Senior Members 20/21 via the following link http://harmenyac.org/ The cost is £25 per year

****March 17th ****Coronavirus Update****
Following yesterday evening’s update from Westminster and subsequent advice from our NGB, Scottish Athletics, I’m afraid we’ve had to take the decision to immediately cancel ALL Harmeny AC training sessions and runs until further notice. This includes all kids training sessions and events, all adult coached sessions and the Wednesday, Friday and Sunday adult runs. I’m sure you’ll all be disappointed, but we feel this is the right thing to do for now and we will continue to monitor what is a very fast moving, and often confusing situation. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-distancing-and-for-vulnerable-people/guidance-on-social-distancing-for-everyone-in-the-uk-and-protecting-older-people-and-vulnerable-adults
Corona virus impacts
Hi Everyone I'm sure you are all aware of the Coronavirus advice and are wondering what impact it will have on the activities of Harmeny AC. Many of you will be aware that events across Scotland, and the world, have been postponed and cancelled as a result. At present the advice from the Scottish Govt and our National Governing Body (NGB) Scottish Athletics is that club gatherings of less than 500 members can go ahead, which would include all runs and training sessions. The coaches remain keen to keep training sessions going for as long as possible. However we would ask that anyone suffering any flu-like symptoms or who are in close contact with someone displaying symptoms are sensible and stay away from the club sessions for a time. We would also ask that hygiene guidelines are followed. Please see the Govt and NHS advice https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public and www.nhsinform.scot/coronavirus.

Map Reading Training with Dougie
Evening troops! I’m aware that not all of us know the Pentlands like Iain; are brave enough to take on parkruns in uncharted territory like Donald and Elaine; or crazy enough to run the WHW like Kim and Sam. As such I wondered if anyone might be interested in a map reading training run at some point over the next few months on a Wednesday night or Sunday morning? I used to orienteer at a fairly decent level so have a bit of previous and would be happy to share my knowledge and maybe help you guys too. Let me know on FB if you are interested and I'll organise a date or two.

East District League – final race, Livingston 18 Jan 2020
Yet another amazing day for Harmeny AC on Saturday. Pride of place goes to U15 boys who, as usual with this bunch of extraordinary boys, performed when it really mattered and won the East District League. Amazing. Tendai, Archie, Alastair, Ethan, Finlay and Jacob - what a squad! Just to prove what a great squad we have, the u11 boys were narrowly beaten to the title. A win for Fergus and a 3rd place from Daniel who were brilliantly backed up by an impressive squad: Ross, Charlie, Ben, Arran, Jacob, Fergus and Jonty. It was particularly pleasing to see the u11 girls also finishing 2nd over the 3-match season. Top10 finishes for Nancy and Leah backed up by a top 20 for Carys, and strong finishes from Olivia and Alex. Another 2 top 10 finishes from Dan and Matthew saw the under 13 boys also

Scottish Athletics Indoor League Match 2
While our senior members were organising the infamous 7 reservoirs race our junior members were out in force at the Emirates Stadium for the second match of the Indoor League. Although slightly depleted due to illness we had athletes in all age groups from U11 to U20 and everyone looked like they were having a great time. Some of our members were doing their very first competition and the excellent organisation from all the officials made sure that everyone was where they were meant to be! Results will be posted when we have them available.

Lindsay’s Scottish Athletics Short Course National Cross Country championships
Fantastic results again from Harmeny AC’s young runners recently. The best result came for Tendai Nyabadza, winning the Lindsay’s Scottish Athletics Short Course National Cross Country championships in Kirkcaldy. Tendai was also part of the Under 15 team who, with current National Cross Country champion Finlay Ross, just missing out on the medals in 4th place, won the team Bronze medal, helped by great finishes from Ethan Lorimer (54) and Archie Irwin (90). We had a large ladies team out too but due to injury and illness only one brave man! News, News, News!!!
It's been a fantastic week for Harmeny Athletic Club. After being shortlisted for the 2nd time in 3 years for the Impact Club of the Year Award at the upcoming Scottish Athletics Awards and our Head Coach Craig Stewart being shortlisted as Volunteer of the Year again for the 2nd time in 3 years , the club’s juniors took the first match of the East District Cross Country league by storm in Stirling on Saturday. There were individual wins for Fergus Ross and Tendai Nyabadza and 7 (seven!) other top 10 finishes by Leah Buchan, Nancy Corrie, Charlotte MacPhie, Natsai Nyabadza, Daniel McIntyre, Matthew Holden and Finlay Ross. These results, backed up by lots of other great runs, meant that the club is top of the league in the U11 boys, U13 girls, and U15 boys and not far away in the U11 girls (2nd)
