World Mental Health Day 2023
The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on 10 October each year.
The theme of 2023’s World Mental Health Day, set by the World Federation for Mental Health, was ‘Mental health is a universal human right’.
For over 70 years, the Foundation has been working to make sure that mental health is treated equally with physical health.
There are many studies which have shown that doing physical activity can improve mental health. For example, it can help with: better sleep – by making you feel more tired at the end of the day. happier moods – physical activity releases feel-good hormones that make you feel better in yourself and give you more energy. In recognition of this Harmeny Athletic Club will be hosting an Open Week commencing on 10th October to which everyone is invited with various activities ongoing throughout the week.
We are quite a unique club in that we have something for everyone, with over 200 senior members ranging from beginners to social runners with a healthy number of athletes competing at advanced levels. In recent months we have also set up a Wednesday morning Walking Group which just about completes the full compliment of options we have on offer.
Please see below as a typical example of our weekly running activities:
Tuesday – Hill Reps from 5.45pm, meet at Threipmuir car park
Wednesday – Headtorch run at 7.30pm, meet at Bavelaw Car Park, Balerno
Thursday – Track at 6.30pm, meet at Saughton Track
Saturday – Various parkruns at 9.30am,in the Edinburgh area
